Ms. Rose, strange and eerie that we talked about the late Raul with the paco and tabagwang. he would have enjoyed such kind of dish. but then, life is viscious, a cycle that can be repeated by the resemblances of events. thanks to you, the memories of my own cockiness will only remain with the fellow. we shared secrets and he was a swell company, warm, flamboyant, gregarious, just like any budding young man. definitely, i am sure he was misunderstood, but having known him for a period of time (though briefly), I can vouch he had something good in him. again, God bless his soul.

dear ms. rose, the late raul was a good friend of mine, we met while he was on his first year duman sa UST and then, nag kabinolagan na kami when he decided to pursue his studies sa probinsya. bako man po ako taga baranghawon, but i know the place because Raul would always talk about it. hang-gang tabaco lang po ang nadumanan ko ta nag mamadali kami kaidto. i had the chance meeting his father and mother and played billiards with him, then. long time ago. salamat gueraray. the mention of baranghawon drove me down the memory lane. such good times will always be good times.
yes palan, he was the son of the barangay captain and had a brother named wilson. too bad he died young, outof a stupid brawl ( you know, the guy thing???????). raul was just starting….. what a waste. He was a good person. tribute ko na po ini sa iya and i wish anybody from baranghawon (besides Grace) can read this and mapa abot man lang sa remaining relatives ni Raul “boy” Brutas. -

baranghawon…… hmmmmm, I remember the good times I hadwith the late Raul Brutas…… may God bless his soul. (sorry po ta na out of thread ako digdi.) gusto ko man po ang paco’, kaya lang, wara digdi kun haen ako ngonyan.

@ Manoy Rose: Pag nagkaraonan na makunswule baga, kanya-kanya suropsupan sa shell kan tabagwang, pag medyo maluya su pagkapot mo su shell tibaad masupsop mo pati su shell. Ayu joke kami sadto, pag sa hapangan na kami kan lamesa pirmi pigsasabi samuya: Hala! kapot na sa lamesa tibaad mahigop kamo kan kataning nyo.

Anonymous@ Pako, tabagwang and Ku’ol will always be part of my childhood in Baranghawon. Kan sadit pa ako, pirmi ako pig-iiba ni mama pag-naglaba siya duman sa salog, infront of our house. Duman sa salog, dahil ngani pano ki kang-kongan, sus! grabe and tabagwang buda ku’ol. Pagkatapos niya maglaba, tapos ako nakakarigos naman sa sagurong [ the river is located at the back of the Panal Church], mina-agi nguna kami duman sa may pangpang para mangua ki Pako [favorite na marhay ni mama, kaibahan na ang niyog-niyog]. Pero mas gusto ko pakatapos kan bagyo ta gabos na ku’ol buda tabagwang nasa gilid kaya fiesta ki karaon!:)) Maski ngunian, pagnakahiling akong pako sa saod, talagang ibakal ko, dahil sagkod ngunian iyo man giraray ang favorite dish ni mama, lalo pigpakulaw may bangot na tulya.

@Andador- haay,salamat ta naka ukod na naman akong true version kang pako ginulay sa tabagwang. I remember na na mas masiram bangotan ki balaw….na block-out man kaya su brain ko ta kalilipngon ko na baga…lingaw ko na na the best palan na bangot iyan diyan,hihihi.
@Caloy- ay, tenk yu man tabi sa suggestion mo ki recipe kan paco pag wara na stock na libreng tabagwang. Hilig ko man an salad anyway…para at least bumaba man cholesterol ko saka high blood pressure,hehe. Ng nag bisita ako kadto 4 yrs ago sa Isabela, igua man sinda ki tabaguang na binabakal sa saran/market. Apod ninda duman sa Tumawini,Isabela kan tabaguang—Agurong.
@Carolina- talaga naman! napaulok na lang ako kan saimong version day! Kalog ka talaga noh? -

mga kaipuhan:
tabag na bawang – 1 kilo(dapat su tinabag talaga kang ikos para may lasang barahibo ki ikos)
2-3 matutulis na pako(mabibili sa hardware……su matatagas… lagarion 5 slices)
3-4 cups nata de coco(3 cups deleted kaya halion mo na su tulo di saro na lang natada)
1 cup balaw na giant – su pinost ni manoy Wawoy na giant balaws (hugasan ta malangsa)
10 lada ni manoy Jason – sliced.
5 lada ni manoy Xandei – su sadit na logo ( hagadon na sana tabi kay M.Xandei)
1 finger sliced – iseparate ang kukoprocedure: Hugasan ang tinabag na bawang, pa swimmingon sa swimming pool, bantayan yaning dae malunod. Lagan asin for 1 hour tapos halion mo giraray su asin.. (inda ko na sana kung mahali pa.. isipon na lang kung pawno dae matunaw su asin. Lagan Nata de coco na hali sa niyog. Dae daa makalingaw maghugas ning kamot lalo na su sarong nagsasalo ning durian dyan tapos su payaba kong nalugadan pagbukas kang de lata ta may dugo dugo pakamot kaya maghugas. Pag ready na gabos, eh di ready na. Ibuhos su sibuyas, luya, at balaw ni Manoy Wawoy pakalakagaon.. bantayan na dae maubas. Dae tabi pagtunungan na kalukaguon ang kaldero na may natok ta… inda.. wara sana. Pag nag kalakaga, ilaag na po su tinabag na bawang dangan su lada ni Manoy Jason and Manoy Xandei. Dae nganay ipaglaag su pako. Pagkalipas kang 20 -25 mins ibuntog na su pako kaiba na su martilyo. Ibuhos su natatadang nata de coco. Mag halat ki 5 – 7 mins. (xl na heat) bago sabuyan ning daga su kalayo.

Gulayna PAKO Na May Tabagwang(Snails with Nails.heheheh)
mga kaipuhan:
Tabagwang-1 kilo(dapat buhay pa,hilingon tabi kung may pulso pa)
2-3 bugkos/tali ng pako-(imuhon/halion su mga matagas na pupol/stalks)
3-4cups coco milk(3 cups diluted with 1 cup water),1 Cup(pure)
1 cup balaw/bagoong-drain juice/hugasan(para bako maasgad)
10 lada na haralaba/jalapenos-sliced
5 lada na saraditon
1 finger sized /gingerluya-peeled and sliced1 large sibulyas-sliced,pang-gisa2 cloves bawang-minced
procedure:Hugasan an mga tabagwang.pa-swimming-on sa sarong baldeng tubig na may asin for1 hour.Gataan su niog,dai tabi makalingaw mag-hugas ki kamot.pag-ready na gabos,igisa su bawang ,sibulyas,luya at bagoong for 2 mins.I buhos su 3 cups gata,pakalakagaon/pakuluon .dai tabe pag-tunungan an pag kulag kan natok tanganing dai mag-kurta.Pag nagkakalakaga/kulo na su natok ikaag su tabagwang dangan su lada.Dai muna ipag-kaag su pako.Pagkalipas ki 20-25 mins,ibuntog na su pako.Ibuhos su sarong cup na kakang gata(pure).mag-halat ki 5-7*- mins(medium heat)bago gadanon su kalayo.

Mitch, last time akong nag uli, sarong beses na lang ako naka gulay ki paco (wara ng tabagwang, deficil ng hanapon, seguro nagadan dahil kan mga pesticides sa oma…). nag pasabi pa ako duman sa dating ming tumatawo na ihanap niya akong paco.
there is another way to enjoy paco. e-blanched mo lang ( pour in hot boiling water ) su paco sa wooden bowl and let the hot water stay for half minute, tapos remove the hot water, quickly padalaganan ki cold water (para ma arrest ngane su hot temperature), then chill, sabayan ki guiniris na kamatis, lada, bawang, onion and onion leeks, vinegar/salt/pepper/little sugar to taste…. tapos kun may olive oil, pour in mga one tablespoon.best served pang malipot na ining simpleng paco salad.
siram sana, lalo na may grilled/fried fish or meat. -

Hi there folks! Si isay man tabi diyan makaka vouch for this yummy recipe? The fern-pako na edible kind is quite rare sometimes…lalo na iniong tabagwang. Bihira na makakua ki libre…romdom ko pa kadto mina gudo lang kami sa gilid kan sapa/springs o even sa side kan tinampo kan pa-Bubulusan tapos mapa kua kami ki tabagwang sa care-taker mi sa uma. Panuon kaini ki tabagwang shells an plato ko…pagkatapos ko pa magkakan, dai mo na mabilang kung pirang empty shells naubos ko pati obvious sa mga black dots na nakadikit sa plato-si pighahali ito sa laman bago mo kakanon. So, igugulay lang sa natok/gata tapos kung gusto mo pa bangutan ki diit na tinapa. Siram sana….ibalik nyo ko sa Bicol!
