I grew up in West Bajac Bajac area 5 blocks behind the police station. Went to Nellie E.Brown Elementary. Sierra Club was my first club experience assenior @ Jackson high (class of 1969). Paulines club has a little boy taking a leak on the alligator. Attended Columban College,I was inBooth camp in 72. Came back in 73 on my firstwestpac where I was introduced to El Bodegon and Banaue club.Back in75 77my favorite weekend get away was white rock and Villa Rovisa hotel both on the beach. In 78-79I was stationed in San Miguel, I was single. Then back to San Diego barking@ recruits. My dad built Rio club in 1954, Susan Restaurant in late 60s,Old Grand Dad in 70s, Dog Patch club/hotel in 79. and quite a few small establishments. I didn’t bring car to San Miguel,we had so much restrictions and fees involved. Before Marcos Era, we had easier access to Subic Navsta. There was always a raffle for an Impala, cadillac or thunderbird for PHP1.00. As a little boy I could buy a 18″ blank magazine and fire a machine gun. Those were my innocent days.

Pading Rod, When I was stationed in Subic in the early 70’s, I was single with a hot car..Rovisa, Jade East, El Bodegon and Bonanza Club were my favorites. Bonanza was good for country western music plus I came to find out was owned by my Agom’s family. Jade East owner was a bicolana from San Antonio, Tabaco City.w/ lots of good looking girls and the owners niece wooo.. she was pretty. Mostly whites hang out at the Rovisa Club. Paulines is the one with an Alligator infront.
Talking about Mustangs, may only two Fords were not bad at all, the 65 Shelby Mustang 2+2 was hot while the 66 Shelby GT 350 was mild mannered until you punch the gas.. The Mustang FB in the movie Bullitt was either a 428 Cobra or a modified 390 GTA…
As to my 85 Supra, it will take time b4 I can finish it. My son is using it as a spare cause he wants to replace the Engine in his 98S 14 Nissan 240 SX LE. I am also debating on what engine should I put into my 95 S14 Nissan 240 SX SE, an SR 20, an RB 25 DET or a Toyota 2JTZ .. better yet an LS1 corvette engine.. That will be my last choice depending on the budget.
We should get together talk about the lady from Gapo.. don’t 4get your Mare is from there.

    Padi,
My project is on hold also. I’m hoarding parts and don’t have time to install them. My trunk is full and there are parts scattered in the garage and wife’s is getting upset. When I go on vacation I try to devote some time restoringand repairing cars. The caris running and I use it as a daily driver… I just don’t have time to do the things I want to do to the car.
Ahhhhh…good ol’ Rovisa Club, One of my favorite hang-out back in the 70’s. Excellent Rock and Roll Band ( Le Jovials is the name I believe) and The Friction played there at one time (I think). Or is it Paulines where there was an alligator in front of the club? I go to Rovisa to listen to somerock music and have a few brewski…just kicking back. They sure can play as good asthe original. That’s how good the rock bands in Olongapo back then. And the girls? We’ll reserve that for future conversation. Tibaad mabakdulan kita ni Commander in Chief!
The 1967 Mustang Fastback used in the movie “Bullitt” was an excellent car. It has become an Iconic figure and people are copying them to this day. Some say it’s the best “Chase car” movie scene ever!. I believe it’s painted Forrest Green, Blacked out tail light sectionand other simple mods to differentiate it from garden variety Mustangs. I’ve seen one on I-15 that is a replica of the car. I tell you…people givethe driverthumbs up everytime they see him drive by. Someday maybe….
Let me know if you need help on the Supra. I miss my 1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S. Those were fun cars to drive.

@Pading Ed.. what part ofOlongapoare you from.. Mustang was also featured in the movieBullitt driven by Steve McQueen. In 1972, I was stationed in SRF, Subic and I drove my 1970 1/2 Camaro Z/28 there. I sold it to the owner of Rovisa Club and Hotel before I transferred back to the States.. Si Agom is from Olongapo.. their place is close to Ma’am Amelia Gordon’s Admiral Midtown.

I guess I’m just not a fan President Ford. I remember growing up In Olongapo, Cadillac Thunderbird were the most popular model then. James Bond made Mustang famous. In 1970-80s California, There was some hundred unit apartment, you could tell that occupants were Pinoys, Camaros, Firebirds and TransAms jammed the parking spaces. So when I got stationed in NTC, I bought myself a Mazda, which shocked the Homeboys, one even remarked that I could bought a Berlinetta. I replied, I have my own taste. I did had a few Japanese and European cars. I even bought my daughter a new Eclipse when sheturned 16. I drive American cars now a days. Ihave no problem with my 2007 HHR and Tahoe. My 1950 Pontiac Chieftain withinline 8 andanother car are in the storage.

@Pading Rod – If i knew then what I know now..I will be cruising in one of this… I had some pretty good Snakes.. 1965 Shelby Mustang, 1966 Shelby Cobra GT 350 and to GMC lovers, a 64 Chevelle SS with 283 cu in. fuellie, 69 Chevelle SS 396, and 70 1/2 Camaro Z/28 with 350 LT1 pushing 420 HP. These cars are worth few hundred $$ now.

@Ed – “I’d rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford”….Well if that ‘s what you want.. to push rather than drive and you have the energy to be pushing all the time nobody will stop you… Presently, I don’t own any car that’s made by an American Company.. However, given a chance, I don’t mind the NEW SUPER SNAKE that is pushing 800 horses.

I would rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford. Who would want to drive a car with someone else name on it? Would you drive a car named Marcos or Arroyo?

    Pading Art,

I wouldn’t mind owning a 1965 Shelby Cobra with a 289 CI V8 or a BIG BLOCK 428. Heck, even kit cars are expensive. I wish we knew then what we know now huh?

In fairness sa mga Ford fans/owners, kung sakaling dumating ang panahon na magkaroon ng pambili ng kotse/sasakyan ..the only Ford I’ll own is the Snake (Cobra)or Super Snake
