Dutch national says Bicol is top tourist destinationTourism
LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 21 (PNA) — “It is so different from what they project of the Philippines. This is the best place to visit,” said Paul Belder, a Dutch national who visited several tourist destinations in Bicol Region. In an interview with PNA, Belder said that despite the advisories issued by different embassies issued by foreign governments regarding the peace and order situation in the Philippines he was surprised to prove them all wrong after visiting several places in the country especially in the Bicol Region.”The people are warm, very friendly and I really feel safe,” he said.”Actually I advised my countrymen to visit Philippines especially Bicol Region. This is one of the places that you can visit and enjoy all the tourist destinations,” he noted.Belder is set to climb at the Mayon Volcano sometime next month. “I already invited my friends in the Netherlands to join me. My countrymen have nothing to fear once they are here in Bicol Region,” he stressed. The Dutchman pointed out that the existence of Abu Sayyaf does not affect the entire Philippines.”What I am trying to point here is that the Abu Sayyaf is only in some parts of Mindanao. There are lots of beautiful places in the Philippines that other foreign nationals can visit,” he explained.Belder is a researcher of the Los Banos-based International Rice Research Institute (IRR). He has been in the Philippines for sometime now and he certainly knowswhat he is talking about. He said the Philippines is too different from other countries with high rate of criminality and terrorism.Another good thing about the Philippines, he added, is that “the people can communicate well, they speak English even a street boy or people in the island or upland barangays are easy to communicate with.”Belder also said he sees no reason for other embassies to issue advisories to their countrymen discouraging them to visit the Philippines.”Instead they should inform their people the places where they can enjoy . I guarantee that Bicol Region for instance is a safe place to visit,” he said with confidence.Regional Director Maria Nini Ravanilla of the Department of Tourism (DOT) welcomed Belder’s statement.”We are glad that our foreign visitor is helping us in the promotion of our tourism industry. We really appreciate that because we have plenty of beautiful tourist spots to offer. Name it and they can have it in Bicol,” Ravanilla said. (PNA) JCN/CDP/LQ/MDR/tma

AnonymousI was very impressedand have long lastingfond memories ofour familyvisit to Rizal beach Resort in Sorsogon last year,That wasduring the month of June. I never evenwent onto the beach nor did I goswimming, but I really enjoyed my afternoonrelaxing in the shade. There wasa wonderful cool gentle sea breeze blowing constantly.Isank a few cold beers too! that helps a lot.I would rank it veryhighly justbecause of the breeze alone. The drive down by jeepney was a little tiring though. I inspected the accomodation available thereand checked out the familyrooms, it was a little pricey but considering the proximity to the beach it was reasonable. I will definatelyspend a week or two there againnext time we visit Sorsogon. Many other places we visited were plesant also especially if the swimming pools were refreshingly cold to swim in. Other places toohad beautiful surounding gardens and werevery nice and thoughtfullylaid out with severalswimming pools and slides for the kids but the water was warm, which is disapointing. The natural pools are the bestif you can rent atable underthe canopy of a tree somewhere then I recomend one shouldgo for it whole-heartedly,no need to sweat it. Cheers!
